Vittime e carnefici. Tre anni dopo l’inizio della più sanguinosa ondata di attentati nella storia di Israele (che da più parti si continua a chiamare romanticamente seconda Intifada) il grande sconfitto è proprio colui che politicamente l'ha propiziata e sostenuta: Yasser Arafat. Questa l’opinione di Gerald Steinberg sul Jerusalem Post.
The success in deterring a wider regional war is more than a minor consolation. Saddam is now out of the picture, the Iraqi military threat to Israel has been eliminated, Syria's army is rusting, and the corrupt regime crumbling. Hizbullah is, at least for now, weakened and threatened with irrelevance, and Iran's nuclear ambitions may still be stopped at the last minute. In addition, Arafat's goal of "internationalizing the conflict" to create a Palestinian state without a peace agreement is not in the cards. We can also derive comfort from the strength and resilience of the Israeli public and the support from the Diaspora. Three years ago Palestinians, as well as many of our own leaders, expected middle-class secular Israel to buckle under the terror attacks. Extrapolating from the Lebanon war, including the mass demonstrations leading to unilateral retreat, a similar response was predicted in the face of Palestinian violence and suicide bombings. But we are still here, three years and nearly 900 murders later, united and with a renewed commitment to Zionism, national sovereignty and cultural revival in our homeland. And the Jewish communities around the world are standing with us, through solidarity missions and direct involvement in combating the great lies and demonization. Furthermore, in contrast to this week's headlines, Arafat's influence continues to disintegrate, albeit gradually. Noi speriamo che Steinberg abbia ragione anche se ci sembra che sottovaluti il credito di cui il raìss e la sua banda continuano a godere presso larghi strati di opinione pubblica soprattutto in Europa. L’informazione certo non aiuta: ecco tre esempi di come le agenzie hanno riportato la notizia del duplice assassinio di venerdì sera. L’uso della parola terrorista per alcuni continua ad essere tabù quando si parla di palestinesi. In Spagna (ascoltato con le nostre orecchie) le due vittime sono state liquidate semplicemente come «coloni». E’ uno stigma ormai. Il «colono» è una non-persona. Anche quando ha sette mesi. Ieri i palestinesi hanno sfilato come se si trattasse di una ricorrenza da festeggiare. Hanno bruciato bandiere, urlato slogan, inneggiato al suicidio. Molti di loro sono essi stessi vittime del fanatismo e dell'intolleranza che tutti i giorni sono costretti a respirare. Il NYT pubblicava proprio ieri un articolo sui murales che vanno di moda a Gaza. In questi tre anni sono morti anche tanti palestinesi che spesso non chiedevano altro che un po' di normalità. Trascinati in un gioco al massacro dai burattinai del terrore. La guerra al terrorismo si fa anche perchè nessuno debba più finire così a causa di un'ideologia assassina. Perchè nessuno sia più usato come carne da macello e come alibi da criminali senza scrupoli. |
