Cercasi Wojtyla disperatamente. Forse i maestri di realpolitik (compreso quelli bravissimi che albergano in TocqueVille) avranno una risposta anche per questo. Forse chi considera Berlusconi un genio del tatticismo e della diplomazia per le scempiaggini dette l'altro giorno non ci troverà nulla di male e spiegherà che è l'unico modo per ottenere qualcosa. Forse il nostro idealismo democratico non è così sofisticato come certe analisi che capita di leggere con frequenza anche dove non ti aspetteresti. Forse. Ma ci è difficile interpretare quella che sembra ormai l'inevitabile svolta vaticana sulla questione Cina-Taiwan come qualcosa di diverso da un tradimento patente dei principi della democrazia e del rispetto dei diritti umani:
THE Vatican is preparing to break its ties with Taiwan and establish diplomatic relations with mainland China, ending more than 50 years of mutual hostility with Beijing. A Vatican official said a leading spokesman, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, was sending a deliberate signal when he said the Vatican was ready to move its nuncio (ambassador) from Taiwan to Beijing immediately. And Taiwanese officials said they expect the Vatican to establish relations with Beijing within 18 months. The shift follows signs that Beijing is tacitly accepting the Pope's right to approve, if not appoint, bishops in China. Cardinal Sodano, speaking at a conference, said that in return for the Vatican cutting its links with Taiwan, China would have to respect religious freedom. Potete contarci. |
