Gli strani alleati degli Stati Uniti. Anne Applebaum sul Washington Post:
Nearly all of the arguments about multilateralism, unilateralism and whether the United States should have allies need to be framed differently. For we do have allies -- it's just that they're allies who want America to fight the war on terrorism while their citizens, simultaneously, denounce the United States for fighting the war on terrorism. What we have, at the moment, is not a coalition of the willing, in other words, but a coalition that dare not speak its name. Quasi tutte le discussioni a proposito del multilateralismo, l'unilateralismo e se gli Stati Uniti dovrebbero avere alleati devono essere inquadrate diversamente. Perchè noi abbiamo alleati - è solo che si tratta di alleati che vogliono che l'America combatta la guerra contro il terrorismo mentre i loro cittadini, contemporaneamente, denunciano gli Stati Uniti per combattere la guerra contro il terrorismo. Quel che abbiamo, al momento, non è una coalizione della volontà, in altre parole, ma una coalizione che non osa pronunciare il suo nome. |
