Verso il 30 gennaio. Varie. Ricordate gli scudi umani anti-guerra volatilizzatisi prima del conflitto? L'ottimo Andrés Gentry nota la loro curiosa assenza domenica prossima:
Needless to say, I am quite happy that elections are moving forward despite the professed aim of terrorists to derail them and the sad indifference shown to them by too many in the West. More's the pity there aren't human shields at all the polling stations, but I guess that says all that needs to be said about those who opposed the war democracy in Iraq. Democracy is that precious. Mr. Bush instead focused on his long-term goal of "ending tyranny in our world," and then cast the Iraqi election coming Sunday as part of a march of freedom around the globe. Forse uno sguardo al resto dei paesi arabi aiuterebbe, come suggerisce Magdi Allam (via Random Bits): Per valutare la portata del voto veramente pluralista in Iraq basta uno sguardo alla farsa delle elezioni presidenziali in Egitto, il Paese arabo di maggior peso politico. «Non mi presterò a fare una sceneggiata affermando prima che non intendo ricandidarmi, affinché la gente manifesti chiedendomi di restare al potere», ha esordito Mubarak alla tv Al Arabiya . Il messaggio è chiaro: a maggio il parlamento lo designerà candidato unico con la maggioranza prescritta di due terzi, e a settembre sarà riconfermato con un referendum popolare alla guida dello Stato per il quinto mandato consecutivo. Siamo tutti iracheni. O almeno dovremmo. |
