Birmania. Le porte chiuse. Erano stati tra i primi ad essere portati via dalla polizia birmana lo scorso agosto. Esponenti di spicco della Generazione dell'88, tra cui Min Ko Naing e Ko Ko Gyi, furono prelevati nella notte e trasferiti ad Insein, il famigerato buco nero dal quale le vite di chi lotta per qualcosa di più della pura sopravvivenza vengono inghiottite. Dopo cinque mesi dieci di loro sono stati formalmente accusati di aver pronunciato dichiarazioni illegali, secondo una legge che vieta il diritto di espressione a gruppi non riconosciuti dal governo. Adesso rischiano altri sette anni dietro le sbarre della prigione di stato dopo un giudizio a porte chiuse:
"They are likely to face trials behind closed doors inside Insein Prison," lawyer Aung Thein told AFP. "I am ready to defend them, but so far I have not been allowed to meet with them," he added. Each could be sentenced up to seven years in prison, Aung Thein said, adding that it wasn't clear what statement the activists had been accused of making. The lawyer said he only learned of the charges from relatives of the activists, who found out while visiting them in prison last week. La popolazione di Insein continua a crescere. The scare follows the arrest of a Burmese blogger, Nay Phone Latt, earlier in the day. Burmese bloggers in the former capital are alarmed and have been forced to go underground in fear of the authorities taking action against them. Nay Phone Latt (Nay Bone Latt), a blogger as well as a writer, was arrested from an internet cafe in Thingan Kyun Township. Cyber business owners in Rangoon told DVB that the Special Police have instructed them to burn the data of internet usage weekly onto CDs and send it to them."The Special Police information department told us to install software to monitor internet usage by our customers and give them the data on CD every week," said an internet café owner. Nelle condizioni tecnologiche e politiche della Birmania cercare di rompere il muro del silenzio attraverso il computer costituisce realmente un'impresa eroica, anche se dubito fortemente che - da sole - azioni come queste possano avere davvero qualche impatto sulla solidità del regime. |
